So Saturday was rainy...very, very rainy. At first, the kids were disappointed. We had planned to have a softball game, play outside in the pool and sand box, and then walk down to the park for the live concert on Saturday. Now, with the rain, all those plans were foiled. Well we decided to make some of our own fun anyways. And it was hard, I was not feeling well, TJ was getting over a cold, and did I mention, it was raining.
So, I just got a Garmin, and the kids were totally interested in this. We decided to get some gift cards we had for skyline, and pick a different skyline that we have never been to, to allow Mr. or Ms. Garmin (depending on your preference) to guide us there. Well the Australian male voice was a hit, but Laney just could not understand why that had to keep saying, "Turn Left in 1 mile, Turn Left in 0.5 miles, Turn Left in 500 feet, Turn Left now." She couldn't take that anyone would need that constant level of reminding, and continued her best Garmin impression for the remainder of the afternoon, "Laney can you get out of the car?" Her response in methodical voice, "Yes, I will, Turn Left in 500 feet."
Then on way home from lunch, TJ was sleepy and mommy was sick. So Daddy had the best idea. He told older kids to stay in car...the surprises were not over yet. Then he got the Toys R Us gift cards we had from X-mas and took them all shopping for a new rainy day toy. Of course, they all chose new Wii games out of the bargain bin, but hey, that kept us entertained for the evening and mommy, and TJ got a long nap!
Oh, and if you are wondering if all this fun got us over our sadness for missing the concert, it sure did. Half-way through the afternoon Ashley realized that we could be our own band, and have our own live concert. And we were. Ashley on guitar and vocals (of course I heard the same song over and over and over) and Laney was on recorder and back-up vocals. Adam Jr. played the harmonica and, well, then he quit because he was tired of performing Ashley's one song over and over. And TJ, well TJ started on giraffe electric guitar, then he moved to the bilingual ABC drums, and then following big brother's lead, he abruptly left the band, his publicist is citing creative difficulties.
It was a lovely day at home!
