So, our fish are dying. Yes, all of them. We have lost 4 of 6 in the last 2 weeks. So...I am sure we have some sort of crazy fish virus. But, it has caused lots of drama at the Ruschman household.
First, Adam's fish went "missing." Really, we didn't know where it went. Then Ashley's much larger fish died. She was hysterically crying that morning, Adam Sr. was out of town for work, and Jen was at the end of her very short rope. So without thinking, I replied to little Adam's 100th repeated question about, "Where is my fish?" with , "I don't know, Ashley's fish probably ate it and that is why she died now too."
Immediately he also broke out into tears.
So, I gathered the kids on the steps, calmed them all down, mourned the loss of the fish (for a few minutes) and then explained to our own drama queen, that she could not remain hysterical all day about the loss of a fish. We recollected and moved on...or so we thought.
The next few days passed, and TJ's algae eater was found on the floor. I mean, really, did this fish jump out of the tank? Another one down.
Finally, on Monday morning Laney announces that Ashley's second fish has died. Ashley maintains some sense of calm (thank goodness), daddy was home to fish out the dead fish, and then Laney begins to shout as he approaches the trash..."No daddy, WAIT! I want to SEE it! I want to see the dead fish!" And just that quickly, it was gone, and she was crushed. Since I am convinced now we are suffering through a fish plague, I promised Laney she can dissect the next one under her microscope!
