Wearing a helmet

I make the kids wear helmets when they ride their bikes. They are the only kids on the street that have to wear helmets, and it is pretty much the worst thing I can do to them on most days. Oh the wicked stepmother who doesn't want them to crack their heads open. Somehow Ashley decided that she did not need to wear a helmet if she was riding a scooter rather than her bike. I think she is somehow missing the point.

Musings from a Five Year Old

Yesterday I had the occasion to be alone in the car with Adam Jr. We began by discussing his day at school. Then a song came on the radio that we both liked. I began dancing in my seat a little, and he asked me to turn up the radio. He then began bouncing up and down, up and down (like he was riding a horse) and when I looked over he said, "See I am shaking my booty like you are." Makes me believe I don't look like I imagine I do while dancing, but I digress. So, I laughed at his booty shaking and went back to driving. He then noticed a poor animal on the road that had not made it across. He asked me, "What is that?" I replied that I thought it was a raccoon or possum that had not made it across the road. He looked and me and said, "Nope, it doesn't look like a raccoon. It is a baby kangaroo." I queried him, "A baby kangaroo, really, have you ever seen one of those in Kentucky?" He said, "Yes, I saw one on Winnie the Pooh." I stand corrected. Then when I asked again, "But do you think baby kangaroos live in Kentucky?" He looked out the window, then back at me and replied, "Did you know that they sell bouncy balls inside that store over there?" Apparently we had moved on.
