Adam and Ashley have chicken pox so I was driving only Laney to school this morning. Before we left she reminded me again that we are having our "100s" party tonight. The kids have all been doing really well in school so as a reward for all their 100s lately, we were having 100 marshmallows, 100 t-shirts that we designed, 100 melon balls...you get the idea. She was pumped. She looked at her daddy and said, "Daddy are you going to be at the 100s party tonight?" He replied, "No sweetie, I have to work." Making a joke I said, "And also daddy got a 91% for the quarter at school, not a 100%." Laney, dead serious, gives her dad a look over the top of her glasses and says, "Don't worry daddy, that is still REALLY good. Good job!" And tonight when I picked her up, she asked if we could do half the party tonight and half tomorrow with daddy because he is trying hard at school too.
On the way to school she tells me that Ashley had a bloody nose last night. I asked, "Why didn't she wake daddy or I up?" Laney replied, "Because she just DEALT with it." I inquired, "But why?" Laney replies, "I mean she was not bleeding all over or anything, so she just DEALT with it." Hmm...maybe I HAVE said that a time or two.
We stopped at McDonald's on way to school, because to be honest, I LOVE their Diet Coke. My excuse was it was a treat for Laney since she has been such a good sport about being the only one in school this week. She said that it was to be OUR SECRET. When we all picked her up fro school today she asks me to pass her her left over orange juice (from the morning) of course, I refused. Ashley immediately asks, "How do you have orange juice?" Laney laughs and says, "Jen, we might as well tell them the truth. They are going to figure it out. Ok guys (pauses for effect as if she is breaking some really bad news)...we went to McDonald's for breakfast." There were moans and groans from all of those that did not get to go. So, of course, Laney elaborates. "I had a english muffin with egg and cheese and a potato. Well not like a whole potato, but a cooked potatoe. Kind of like a potato that is a tater tot. Well not exactly like a tater tot, but like a flat tater tot. Yeah, like a big flat tater tot."
So here I am, reflecting tonight on my day of Laney quotes and hoping that someday others her own age will appreciate the Laney way of thinking and talking (without even thinking) as much as we do! As with all my kiddos, I cannot wait to see how she turns out!
